FIRST WEDNESDAY

First Wednesday

is our live one-hour webinar on a variety of subjects of importance to facility managers. Sourcing, water conservation, disaster planning, global terrorism, maintenance issues, safety and security, and ergonomics are just some of the topics we’ve explored. Sessions are approved for CEU and CFM/FMP maintenance points. Can’t attend a live webinar? We’ve got you covered. Our webinars are recorded and available online 24/7.

SUMMARY

In March of last year, IFMA’s Corporate Facilities Council began a series of webinars on covid response strategies just as the pandemic was beginning to accelerate in the United States. The CFC experienced record-breaking attendance and views of these webinars as the FM community was struggling to get a handle on an informed response plan. Two months into the pandemic, the CFC devoted a webinar to “Separating Fact from Fiction” as the marketplace was adapting and pivoting to provide support and solutions to FMs.

Now one year later, the CFC is taking a look back at what we have learned and where our predictions were accurate or off-the-mark. We will also look into the future at emerging technologies and solutions for the workplace that have been shaped and influenced by the events of the past year. Once again, nationally-recognized Certified Industrial Hygienist, David Brinkerhoff of Forensic Analytical Consulting Services, Inc. will be reuniting with the CFC’s Wayne Whitzell to take and evidence-based look back and a look forward as we enter a future that has fundamentally shifted over the past year.

As FM’s are your C-Suites asking what is being done to ready the workplace for your employees to return safely?

Synopsis: The global pandemic has fundamentally changed how we live, learn, and work. People have new needs and expectations, requiring shifts in the way we think about buildings and the workplace. Since the pandemic shuttered offices, schools and communities─Steelcase has been doing ongoing research. Partnering with MIT on 8 primary studies in 10 countries, we’ve talked to more than 32,000 people and have analyzed 8,000 floor plans (with 40,000 workstations)? and our research is continuing now every quarter across the globe.

The office of the future will undoubtedly vary between company and culture. But the solution for the majority of workers in the post-COVID workplace will resemble a journey, rather than a single destination. One that blends virtual and in-person experiences, touchless interactions, and technology to bring it all together effortlessly. We’ll share how technology for a post-COVID workplace can easily tie into existing networks, scale with the changing needs, monitor compliance of COVID policies and support a distributed workforce. This presentation will provide view of a safe, connected future work experience that puts existing and new technologies to work in a way that makes our return to the office better than the one we left.

The world is fast-changing.

Artificial intelligence, automation, and robotics are infiltrating every sector of the supply chain in our “information world”. Over the next 30 years, the FM white collar jobs are more at risk to be automated than the FM expert associates. There is a movement to increase the value of FM services, by increasing their efficiency and effectiveness. The workers of the future who will not be automated, are FM professionals and expert associates who can identify and utilize expertise. These are the “FM Professionals and Expert Associates of the Future”. They must adapt to the new age of artificial intelligence, information systems and automation.

Dr. Dean proposes that identifying and utilizing expertise to cut cost and dominantly increase performance is the only way to secure their future positions. The way to do this is called the Best Value Approach. He proposes FMs need to increase their responsibilities and minimize their workload. The “FM Professionals and Expert Associates of the Future” is a different paradigm from the traditional FM professional. They will use simplicity instead of technical complexity and utilize the language of metrics to simplify. They affect the entire supply chain by bringing efficiency, simplicity, and transparency. The “FM Professionals and Expert Associates of the Future” must learn this new paradigm, vocabulary, and actions to be successful and sustainable in the future.

OVERVIEW

Building design engineers are now evaluating possible changes to improve the ability of these systems to deal with this new challenge and to reduce the risk of human infection to the building’s inhabitants. This course was designed for building owners, developers, architects, engineers and others concerned with the impact of buildings, building systems and design decisions on the health and wellbeing of the building occupants as we all grapple with the devastating impact of this health emergency.

The course will address specific steps that can be made in the design, implementation, operation and maintenance of building mechanical systems to decrease the risk of infection. The course describes the technologies available and science (engineering and virology) behind their effectiveness. The lecture will provide information regarding the impact of these measures on the virus as well as the pros and cons associated with each measure. The lecture will also include a discussion on energy, air quality and comfort implications associated with the various COVID-19 response strategies.

Session Summary

In today's digital age, data collection and management are key for property and facility management markets─it separates the most successful organizations from the rest of the pack. Drone technology has now opened up a number of data collection opportunities that were previously logistically prohibitive or impossible. These services range from asset management and commercial infrared roof inspections to mapping and surveying, and we will address how these services, as well as drone implementation into your internal operations, will bring value. You will learn the credentials and certifications required for these aerial/drone services along with compliance and regulations. Learn about data driven roof management and what that specifically looks like with this technology- data collection, data visualization, data insight, data storage, data analytics. The history of infrared inspection protocol compared to this new technology and what the advantages are for facility managers will be addressed. Case studies will be presented on how these services have been used for property and facility management clientele, so you will have concrete examples of how this may help you. Drone integration is designed to enhance your existing processes and make them more efficient so that you can stretch your capital outlay as intelligently as possible.

Learning Objectives

Drone compliance, Regulations, Credentials, and Certifications required for these services Applications for Facility Management- Aerial Data Workflow, Drone Sensors, Infrared Inspections, Facility Management Applications and Case Studies, Intelligent Roof Maintenance, Data Analytics Operations Management- Drone Implementation into Internal Operations, Insurance, Organization Policy, Training, Drone Operation Challenges, Drone Platform Selections

He has held senior structural engineering positions at tier one aircraft manufacturers and has over 10 years FAA compliance experience. Sean is a Part 107 licensed commercial drone pilot and holds multiple certifications in infrared inspection. The recent advances in unmanned aerial systems over the last few years has inspired him to seek potential applications for the powerful technology. He is constantly pushing the envelope to offer value propositions to clients.

The design of corporate workspaces has never been so prescribed─until now. Finding new commonalities with healthcare brethren, the office setting is at once a potential source of contagion and a place of irreplaceable in-person connection. And yet the office, like the hospital before it, must move along with one significant change – an expanded boundary of risk. This presentation will explore existing models of health risk, the challenges associated with communicating risk, and propose a novel framework for building worker resiliency by making sense of spatial health risk.
